St. Louis EMT recuperating after drive-by shooting in U. City

ST. LOUIS (KMOV) – A St. Louis city Emergency Medical Technician has been upgraded to stable condition after being shot multiple times during a drive-by shooting.

According to authorities, the incident happened around 10:15 p.m. Wednesday night near Midland Boulevard and Balson Avenue in University City.

Officers say the victim, Shawn Williams, a St. Louis City EMT, was taking his laundry to a nearby laundromat at the time of the shooting.  Williams has been an EMT since February, 2008.

Witnesses say two cars opened fire on the street.

Police believe the incident is random and that there was no motive to behind the victim's shooting.  Williams was taken to Barnes-Jewish Hospital and is listed in critical condition.

An investigation in ongoing.  University City authorities are asking for witnesses to come forward or call the University City police department.  If witnesses want to remain anonymous, they can call Crimestoppers at 866.371.TIPS (8477).
