(KMOV) – The unbearable heat is making it tough for firefighters to do their jobs.
Tuesday night, one firefighter was overcome by heat and became sick while fighting a fire in St. Charles.
Todd Young says he’s thankful firefighters saved what they could of his house along Houston Street. The fire started on his deck and the flames spread quickly – hardly the ideal conditions for firefighters on an extremely hot day.
"You're wearing that gear and it's 90 degrees and you're going into an enclosed structure that's several hundred degrees and you're working pretty hard," says Fire Captain Dan Casey.
Firefighters say just like anyone else, they must also stay hydrates to be ready to brave the heat and flames.
