JOPLIN, Mo. (AP) -- Three Louisiana chefs were on their way to Joplin to cook for 1,000 residents of the tornado-ravaged southwest Missouri community.
The chefs who call themselves The Taste Buds left New Orleans Monday afternoon. They are arriving Tuesday in Joplin, where they and volunteers will set up a cooking site and serve Louisiana seafood from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Greg Reggio is one of the chefs who will be at Landreth Park. He says the mission of the caravan trip is to help lift the spirits of people in Joplin for a few hours.
Reggio says New Orleans residents know first-hand how tough it is to start rebuilding a city after a devastating catastrophe.
Twenty-year-old fiddler Amanda Shaw will provide entertainment during the meal.
