(KMOV) – Several roads in St. Louis County have turned pink because of loose gravel never sticking to the adhesive emulsion underneath.

The county will repair roads in four neighborhoods and one park and are assessing 40 miles of pavement that were done with a method known as “chip sealing.”

Chip sealing is four times cheaper than the typical paving method.

The county says it will continue to pave roads with this method, but will no longer use the salmon-colored gravel.
