(KMOV) —The increase of cicadas in the St. Louis area is creating an issue with snakes making their way into neighborhood backyards.
Copperhead snakes are taking advantage of the growing number of Cicadas for their food supply. This is a warning for pet owners and parents who have small children.
Copperhead bites are not deadly to large dogs or adults. Small pets or children who have an allergic reaction are at the most risk.
Snakes are more active and can be found in log or rock piles, so removing these can take away the snake’s habitat and help protect children and pets.
