(KMOV.com) -- An airplane had to return to Lambert Airport after losing power to one of its engines.

An airport spokesperson said American Airlines flight 854 was heading to Chicago from St. Louis around 2 p.m. when pilots reported that they lost an engine shortly after take-off.  The pilots had no choice but to return to St. Louis.

The MD 80 airplane was able to land normally, however, a small fire started shortly after landing.  The fire was extinguished and firefighters sprayed foam on the plane as a precaution.

None of the 131 passengers on board were injured.
