ST. LOUIS (KMOV) – A man is dead after allegedly holding a woman hostage in a north St. Louis parking lot.

This started around 2:45 a.m. on Friday as a domestic incident at Fall Street and St. Louis Avenue.

Police received a 911 call for help and when they arrived, they found Brandon Dixon, 37, flourishing a gun at a 31-year-old woman.

According to St. Louis police, as officers approached Dixon, he ran from the scene to a lot in the 2700 block of Fall Street.

The officers then heard a gunshot and found Dixon had been shot in the chest. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities and witnesses say that none of the officers fired their weapons.

A handgun was recovered near Dixon, but police are still trying to determine if the gunshot was self-inflicted or if someone else shot Dixon.

The woman involved in the incident was not injured.
