CENTRALIA, Ill. (KMOV) — A 22-year-old man has been charged with murder and aggravated assault after he admitted to killing a man and seriously injuring an elderly woman in Centralia, Illinois.
According to police, Christopher Newcomb confessed to stabbing his landlord Kathryn Beard multiple times Wednesday morning at 654 N. Walnut St.
Newcomb also admitted to police that he killed 64-year-old Frank Augustine. His body was found inside Fotoz Color Lab at 1201 N. Elm in Centralia Wednesday afternoon.
Authorities found Newcomb Thursday morning at an America’s Best Value Inn in Centralia. Officials say Newcomb violently resisted arrest and attempted to escape officers. Newcomb was taken into custody, admitting his involvement with the attack of Beard and the assault and killing of Augustine.
Newcomb has been charged with murder, aggravated assault against an elderly person, aggravated battery to a police officer and resisting arrest.
He is being held in the Marion County Jail.
