(KMOV)--The St. Charles County Council passed a bill Tuesday night that would allow voters to decide whether they want to ban smoking in almost all public buildings, including restaurants and bars.
The issue would be on the November 2012 ballot.
County Executive Steve Ehlmann can veto the bill, sign the bill, or let it lie.
If Ehlmann vetos the bill, the County Council would need five votes to override his veto. If Ehlmann signs the bill and the issue will go before the voters. If he lets it lie and it will become law after 10 days.
