(KMOV) -- A convicted felon was arrested Wednesday morning after allegedly running down a sheriff’s deputy with his vehicle, sparking a high-speed chase.

Jefferson County authorities say Jacob Steffenuaer, 24, was reportedly going to turn himself in on Wednesday morning on a no-bond felony warrant.

Just before going into custody, Steffenuaer allegedly got back into his car and took off, striking a deputy.

Steffenuaer was arrested a short time later in south St. Louis County near St. Anthony’s Hospital.

Corporal Eric Stotler was taken to Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis. He suffered several bruises, but no broken bones.

Steffenuaer was charged with assault on a police officer, resisting arrest and leaving the scene of an accident.

Steffenuaer is currently being held in the Jefferson County Jail on a $1 million cash only bond.
