(KMOV.com) – A popular downtown St. Louis diner currently closed for repairs after being struck by an SUV over the weekend may reopen sooner than initially thought.

The vehicle slammed into the Eat Rite Diner near the intersection of Chouteau and 7th around 3 a.m. Sunday

The owner told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch he hoped to re-open the historic diner before Mardi Gras, which is always good for business.

The Mardi Gras Grand Parade is on March 1.
