Proposed rule to limit adults at city playgrounds on hold, for now

Posted: Updated:

(KMOV.com) - The St. Louis Board of Aldermen may consider a proposal that would ban adults from playgrounds at city parks unless they are with a child.

Two aldermen proposed the rule change after hearing complaints that older teens and young adults were hanging around city playgrounds while drinking and doing drugs.

Officials said the possible rule changes are on hold until those in favor decide on a cut-off age.

"How do we make our parks or our playgrounds safe for children?” said Ward 22 Alderman Jeffrey Boyd. “Because when you have adults on swing sets sitting on the playground and taking over and they're exhibiting negative behavior, that's not good."

New York City and a few cities in Florida have similar ordinances.
