(KMOV) – The Belleville City Council has approved the design of a new grocery store despite several members being against the plan.
Kroger plans build one of its discount grocery stores, Ruler Foods, at 17th and N. Belt West, where the Bel-Air Bowl used to operate.
The company will receive a $200,000 TIF package for the project in exchange for a $2.9 million investment and the creations of at least 12 full-time jobs in the first year.
Alderman Joe Hayden was among several Belleville officials who voiced their displeasure with the plan because of the building’s aluminum siding. He said the new building should have a brick facade to better match other brick buildings along N. Belt West.
