( -- In Illinois, drivers didn’t seem to have nearly as many problems with road conditions as their Missouri counterparts.

An IDOT spokesman told News 4 they’re very pleased with how everything is going. The plan kicked into action late last night, before the snow started falling.

IDOT ended up calling some crews in early on Monday to start pre-treating the roads.

After a few slick hours early Tuesday morning, roads were in good shape, but wet.  Truck operators have been working 12 and 14 hours shifts since 11 p.m. Monday night spraying chemicals and plowing back snow on the highways. There is colder air in the forecast, which did prompt officials to keep an eye on the road moisture to prevent refreezing.

“Obviously, that’s always a concern, but right now we’re going to do everything we can to avoid that situation,” said Joe Monroe. “Our goal is to have everything tip top for evening rush and hopefully we’ll get some good drying.  The winds will help us and so will the sun.”
