(KMOV) – An elderly man struck and killed in a hit-and-run accident in Hillsboro early Monday morning.
According to officials with the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Ronald Arndt, 80, was hit on northbound Route B near Marshak Way at 6:10 a.m. Arndt was reportedly laying in the road at the time of the accident.
He was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver fled the area.
"It would be easier to accept an accident, rather than someone who just walked away," said Glynda Bilgere, Ronald Arndt's daughter.
Bilgere said her father suffered with Alzheimer's and moved in with her last August. She believes her father got up at night or this morning and walked out of their home in the Raintree Plantation subdivision along Highway B.
She said and she and her father often took walks together, but he never left home on his own.
Officers are searching for a suspect who is believed to be driving a maroon late 1990s Ford Ranger pickup truck with lower passenger-side damage. The truck has black wheels, tinted windows and a possible extended cab.
Further details into the investigation were not immediately known.
Anyone with information regarding the suspect or the incident is asked to call the investigating officer, Corporal Watson with the Missouri State Highway Patrol at 636-300-2800.
