Billikens extend win streak to 11

On a day when the Billikens couldn’t buy a basket in the first half, they still managed to roll over Fordham 70-48 to extend their winning streak to 11 games.

“It’s hard to win one game, let alone 11 in a row,” SLU head coach Jim Crews said. “It is a great tribute to these guys. One of the great staples of this team over the last three years is that we win all kind of different ways – different guys step up at different times and we win different kind of games. That’s a great asset to have, how they go about their business from that standpoint.”

St. Louis U. missed its first nine 3-point attempts, and made only one of 15 from behind the arc in the first half.

“The shots just weren’t falling,” Jordai Jett said. “Our defensive intensity picked us up. We forced some turnovers and got some easy buckets off our defense.”

Jett finished 18 points and became the 30th player in Billikens history to score more than 1,000 in his career.

The Billikens are now 17-2 on the year and ranked 24th. Their 6-0 record on the road is currently the best mark in the country. Jett takes exception to those who say the Billikens record is a product of a weak schedule.

A lot of the fans probably think some of the teams we beat weren’t good and they were expecting us to win,” Jett said. “In reality, we had our scouting, we had to work hard, make sure everything was right, have all the little things down pat.”

Next up for the Billikens is a trip to Pittsburgh to play Duquesne on Wednesday night.
