( – Carbon monoxide tests will be required for all active gas extraction wells located at the Bridgeton Landfill.

Attorney General Chris Koster announced on Friday that Judge Michael Jamison of the St. Louis County Circuit Court accepted an agreement between the Attorney General’s office and Republic Services. The agreement requires Republic to test active wells in the north quarry, including the “neck” area of the Landfill.

Republic is required to provide the data on or before Feb. 20. They are also required to test every 60 days until June 20.

“Today’s order means that the public and local first responders will have CO data for the entire landfill within 35 days,” said Koster. “Access to this data is critical to get the most accurate picture of the underground fire.”

Judge Jamison set a full hearing for June 19 and 20. The hearing will also address any issues related to the ongoing lawsuit against Republic.
