Rams' Quinn named PFWA Defensive Player of the Year

NEW YORK – Rams defensive end Robert Quinn was named the Pro Football Writers of America Defensive Player of the Year on Wednesday.

Quinn led the NFC with 19 sacks this season, finishing second in the NFL only to Indianapolis Colts outside linebacker Robert Mathis. It was the most sacks by a Rams since it became an official statistic in 1982. His 145 sack yards led the NFL.

He also forced seven fumbles, most in the NFC, two of which were returned for touchdowns. 

Quinn led the team with 18 tackles for loss.

The Associated Press Defensive Player of the Year Award, mostly commony thought of as the "official" honor, will be announced Feb. 1.
