(KMOV) – The St. Charles City Hall parking garage will undergo renovations in March, and the city will provide shuttle buses for those suddenly left without a place to park.
The 38-year-old garage, located adjacent to St. Charles City Hall at 200 N. 2nd St., contains 420 parking spots. City officials say the facility will be closed until the $3.8 million six-month project ends sometime in August.
"We have three county buildings on this corner lot so there's a lot of employees and businesses on Main St. and evenings and weekends the parking garage is used," said St. Charles Public Works Director Debra Aylsworth.
Officials say a bus will run between City Hall and the Lewis and Clark Boat House every 10 minutes from 6:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. on weekdays during the closure. The boat hous has about 650 parking spots.
A second bus will also run during the morning and evening peak hours.
The plan is still a work in progress. The shuttle service will cost the city at least $75,000 and could go up to $150,000 depending on whether they increase the hours.
