Belleville man arrested for attempting to use counterfeit money in Metro East

(KMOV.com) – Police have arrested a Belleville resident for attempting to use counterfeit money at several businesses in Caseyville, Ill.

Earnest Rice, 25, was arrested after he tried receiving change for counterfeit $50 bills. Police tell News 4 that Rice attempted to get change from an area liquor store, Dollar General and a hotel. None of the stores fell for the scheme.

Rice was arrested after police received a call for a male using the counterfeit currency in the 600 block of S. Main St. on Jan. 12 at 12:09 p.m. Rice was walking away from the store when he was taken into custody.   

Rice is currently being held at the St. Clair County jail on a $40,000 bond. He is awaiting trial for two counts of Forgery, a class 3 felony.
