(KMOV) – Temperatures will drop below the freezing mark Tuesday night, ushering in the possibility of some flurries in the St. Louis area.

“The news isn’t all that bad, if you compare where we are right now to where we were 8 days ago with below double-digit temperatures,” said News 4 Meteorologist Matt Chambers.

Temperatures started in the low 30s Monday morning, and was expected to rise to about 40 degrees by about 12 p.m.

According to Chambers, a sprinkle or two is possible by about 9 a.m. That chance for showers will continue to around lunchtime.

“We’re not necessarily precipitation free today, and we certainly want to be above freezing before any of that rain starts to fall,” said Chambers.

No accumulation is expected if it does snow due to above-freezing temperatures.

A cold front will arrive late Tuesday afternoon, causing temperatures to drop alongside high winds.

“Mid-30s by the evening commute time. Cold, windy and maybe a few flurries,” said Chambers. “But again, just not sticking.”

The low temps will stick around Wednesday, with highs around 28 degrees. Temperatures on Thursday will be back in the 40s.
