EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. -- A southwestern Illinois woman has been sentenced to a decade in prison for her role in the 2012 overdose death of a 19-year-old man.
Forty-two-year-old Debra Nelson of Granite City was sentenced in Madison County Circuit Court after she pleaded guilty in November. She’s charged with drug-induced homicide in the December 2012 death of Dylan Hartman.
Authorities allege Nelson sold liquid methadone to 23-year-old David Deforest Jr. of Granite City. Investigators allege that Deforest then supplied the drug to Hartman, who was later found dead in his home.
Deforest has pleaded not guilty to a drug-induced homicide count and awaits trial.
Nelson must serve at least three-quarters of her 10-year sentence. She was sentenced Friday.
