Resident shoots burglary suspect twice in leg after breaking into St. Louis home

(KMOV)-- A burglary suspect is in the hospital after police say a resident of the home shot him twice in the leg.

Authorities say the suspect, 23, broke into a house in the 4300 block of Shreve attempting to steal copper pipes from the basement.
The temporary resident of the home, 41, went to the basement, where police say a struggle ensued over the weapon.
Officials say the victim, fearing for his safety, then fired two shots at the suspect. He was hit twice in the leg.
The suspect was transported to an area hospital for treatment.
The investigation is ongoing.
