(KMOV)-- Icy conditions on a steep residential hill sent a minivan into a house full of people, Wednesday night in Alton.
The wreck happened just before 5 p.m. on West 7th street. The driver of a mini-van was traveling up a steep street when it hit a patch of ice and began to slide backwards. The van slammed into a home in the 200 block.
Demetria Doolin was home with her fiance and three children. No one in the house was hurt when the van drove through the front room of the house.
"I thank God we are o.k. My children were not in there. I thank God they were o.k.," said Doolin.
One of the people in the van suffered minor injuries.
Doolin says neighbors on her street rarely attempt to drive up the hill in rain or snow. Often, the area near the top of the hill is not treated in the winter.
"You can not come up here. We always park down there," said Doolin, pointing to the bottom of the hill.
Doolin plans to stay in a hotel until repairs are made to the home.
