RUSHVILLE, Ill. (AP) -- A former western Illinois man has pleaded guilty to stabbing a woman to death in 1993 and has been sentenced to 34 years in prison.
Jeff Kennedy, formerly of Quincy, apologized in court Wednesday for killing 34-year-old Susan Bonser.
Kennedy's attorney tells the Quincy Herald-Whig that he came forward to plead guilty because he couldn't live with the crime anymore.
Kennedy was arrested in July in connection with an unrelated car theft. He eventually told investigators about his role in Bonser's death.
He was indicted earlier this month.
Bonser was found dead in her Rushville apartment on Oct. 18, 1993, and her murder had been unsolved.
Prosecutors say she and Kennedy knew each other and were quarreling when Kennedy struck her and stabbed her multiple times.
