NEOSHO, Mo. (AP) -- Newton County authorities say they do not expect to file charges in a fatal shooting of a teenager at a slumber party.
Fourteen-year-old Megan G. Reppond of Joplin died Monday after being shot in the head while at a friend's Neosho home for the party.
Investigators say the homeowner told police he took the gun out of a safe to try out a holster he got for Christmas, and he did not expect the girls to go into the room where the gun was kept.
But the girls found the gun and one of them, apparently believing it was not loaded, accidentally shot Megan.
Newton County prosecutor Jake Skouby told The Joplin Globe Tuesday that he doesn't expect to file charges.
