EAST ST. LOUIS, Ill. (AP) -- A southwestern Illinois woman is in federal custody after being accused of masterminding a foiled attempt to have her ex-boyfriend killed over a custody dispute involving their 3-year-old son.
Federal prosecutors charged 31-year-old Christina Keck of Collinsville with using a facility of interstate commerce in a murder-for-hire scheme.
FBI Special Agent Daniel Cook says in a court filing that a witness told the FBI that Keck asked him if he would find someone to kill her ex-boyfriend. Cook writes that when an undercover investigator met with Keck on Monday, she gave him directions to her ex-boyfriend and showed him pictures of the man.
Cook says Keck preferred not to have the killing done in her son's presence.
Keck's public defender hasn't returned a call seeking comment.
