(KMOV)-- Many drivers spent hours trapped in their cars during last week’s ice storms after road crews struggled to keep streets clean.
Now the threat of another episode on Friday means more questionable conditions in the metro-area.
District Engineer for MODOT Tom Blair says keep your travel plans, but consider modifying them.
He suggests leaving Thursday or Saturday if possible.
Crews are preparing for Christmas Eve travel, though. They are getting plows and trucks ready for Friday, and already mixed tons of road salt with beet juice, a practice road crews have used for the last couple years.
Some streets have been pre-treated with liquid salt, as well.
I-DOT spent today concentrating on Jersey, Madison, Calhoun, and Greene Counties with the same liquid salt solution.
The department expects to hit the rest of the area tomorrow and Friday morning.
Blair said if the weather results in just snow, as the forecast now predicts, MODOT will easily deal with the issue.
