(KMOV)-- The East St. Louis City Council’s vote to plan the layoff of 26 city workers has been postponed.
According to Mayor Parks, The East St. Louis Police meeting with the City Council to discuss cuts will not take place on Monday.
City officials say they still need to sit down with the police union and discuss possible concession in an effort to keep jobs.
The meeting has tentatively been rescheduled for Thursday.
The East St. Louis City Council was expected to vote Monday on a plan to lay off 26 city workers in an effort to curt spending and balance the budget.
The layoffs would take effect January. Nineteen of the city’s 62 police officers could lose their jobs.
