JOPLIN, Mo. (AP) -- Producers of the ABC reality show "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" have announced their goal for a build in Joplin: seven houses in seven days.
Details of the build were announced in a news release Thursday. "Extreme Makeover" executives had announced last week that they planned a multi-home project in the city that lost more than 7,000 homes along with 160 lives in the May 22 tornado.
Groundbreaking for the week-long build is scheduled for Oct. 19. The project will be led by Nixa Mayor Sam Clifton, president of Joplin-based Millstone Custom Homes. Clifton also led an "Extreme Makeover" project in 2009 for a family in Ash Grove.
The show is asking for thousands of volunteers and businesses to take part in the homebuilding spree.
