(KMOV) -- Belleville police say the body of a woman was found on the front porch of a home in the 700 block of Washington Street in downtown Belleville.
The woman was found dead just after four in the afternoon, on the front steps of the home. The occupants of the home did not know the woman. The woman has been identified as Ruth Reinhardt, 79. She lived in an apartment complex that caters to senior citizens.
Two hours earlier, police say someone called about a disoriented, elderly woman walking near Mascoutah and Monroe Streets. Officers searched for the woman, but did not immediately locate her.
Police believe that heat played a role in Reinhardt's death. There were no other obvious injuries. A medical examiner will confirm the cause of death.
At 2 p.m., the temperature in Belleville was 98 degrees. It rose to 99 degrees by 4 pm, with a heat index of 102 degrees.
