(KMOV) -- The Illinois Department of Transportation has announced plans to close all westbound traffic on the Martin Luther King Bridge beginning Monday.
Crews are expected to begin work on the bridge Monday morning at 9:00 a.m. until 3:30 p.m.
The westbound closures will be during daytime hours only. The westbound lanes will be re-opened to traffic daily and there will be no overnight closures.
These lane closures are needed to perform the biennial safety inspection of the structure.
The Illinois Department of Transportation suggests motorists use the Poplar Street Bridge, or other alternative routes, during these time periods.
Traffic control devices will be in place to guide traffic safely through the work zone.
Motorists are urged to reduce speed and use additional caution while driving near the work zone.
Work on the MLK bridge is expected to be completed by Thursday, September 1.
