CHICAGO (AP) -- Gov. Pat Quinn is dispatching Illinois National Guard troops and other emergency workers to New York to help prepare for Hurricane Irene.
In a news release on Saturday, Quinn says 160 National Guard troops will be stationed along the eastern seaboard over the weekend. Also being sent are six UH-60 Blackhawk helicopters and two CH-47 Chinook helicopters. In addition, 1,000 troops from the state are reporting to their units on Saturday in preparation for possible deployment to the East Coast, as well.
Quinn's office says New York has agreed to reimburse Illinois for expenses related to the deployment.
