(KMOV.com) -- Hurricane Irene will impact the East Coast, but that impact could be felt in the Midwest when it comes to gas prices.
There are many oil refineries on the east coast and they will have to close down as the hurricane approaches. Unfortunately, the refineries cannot wait to see if the hurricane will impact them, so even it it does not, there is going to be less gas produced for a while.
Experts predict gas prices could go up this weekend. Once these refineries shut down, they cannot just flip a switch and get everything back to normal. It takes several days to get them going again.
Some experts estimate it could take up to a month before all refineries return to full capacity operation.
