(KMOV.com) -- The Illinois Department of Transportation announced that daytime closures will be encountered on the Martin Luther King Bridge, beginning Monday, August 29th and ending Thursday, September 1st.
The following information is from the Illinois Department of Transportation.
On these days, the bridge will be closed to westbound traffic from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., weather permitting. These lane closures are needed to perform the biennial safety inspection of the structure.
The westbound closure will be during these daytime hours only. The westbound lane will be re-opened to traffic daily and there will be no overnight closures.
It is anticipated this work will be completed on September 1, 2011.
Westbound motorists on I-55/70/64 will need to utilize the Poplar Street Bridge, or other alternative routes, during these time periods.
Traffic control devices will be in place to guide traffic safely through the work zone. Motorists are urged to reduce speed and use additional caution while driving near the work zone.
