(KMOV.com) -- A suicidal Illinois man was arrested and charged with illegal possession of a firearm after he called 911 and said he set his home on fire.
The following information is from a news release from the Madison County Sheriff's Office.
On August 24, 2011 at approximately 3:35 p.m., the Madison County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call from a reported suicidal subject at 4759 Blackburn Road, Edwardsville, Illinois.
Members of the Madison County Sheriff’s Office Patrol Division and Investigative Division responded to the scene and were able to secure a subject, who was armed with a firearm, without incident. Several other police agencies throughout the region including but not limited to the Illinois State Police and the Edwardsville Police Department aided in the efforts at the scene.
The Hamel Fire Department was also dispatched to the scene in reference to the home reportedly having been set on fire by the caller. An inspection of the home revealed the presence of a large amount of smoke and minimal amount of damage caused by a small fire.
Deputies detained a subject at the residence pending further investigative efforts. The subject detained at the home was identified as:

EDWARDSVILLE, II. 62025
Garner was ultimately charged with a misdemeanor offense of POSSESSION OF A FIREARM WITHOUT REQUISITE FIREARM OWNER’S I.D. CARD and is still in the custody at the Madison County Jail.
