JENNINGS, Mo. (KMOV) – Three suspects are in police custody for the shooting that has a 14-year-old Jennings Middle School student fighting for her life. Two of those suspects are juveniles.

On Monday, the 14-year-old girl was hospitalized after being shot in the face.  Witnesses say the shooting was the result of a dispute over an iPod.

The attack happened just after 4 p.m. in the 2300 block of Hoard, not far from the school.

Investigators say a green minivan drove up on a group of students, and someone inside opened fire on the young girl, hitting her in the face.

The victim was rushed to a local hospital and was last listed in critical condition.

Jared M. Britton, 17, who was walking with the teens, fired back at the SUV. He is currently being held on a $50,000 bond.

Investigators believe one or more of the suspects in the SUV may have had a feud with one of the individuals walking in the group and that the female victim was not the intended target.

The teen victim was transported to a nearby hospital and is listed in critical condition.

Anyone with additional information should call the St. Louis County Police Department.
