ST. LOUIS (KMOV) -- A 26-year-old man police call a serial burglar was arrested and now faces 18 charges for burglary and thefts.
The suspect, Allen Perfater, allegedly committed the crimes close to his South City home. Police say he admitted to them all.
He would reportedly break into garages from city alleyways and steal.
Police later received a tip that helped them track down Perfater while he was reportedly trying to sell some of the stolen goods.
Officers say Perfater’s crime spree started in June and ended when they served a search warrant on his house, less than a mile away from many of his targets. Inside they found stolen items and nearby they found a stolen van.
In response to the break-ins, a sizeable group of neighbors gathered to build a united front against crime. “It's for quality of life, to get people to stay in the area,” says Carol Howard, 14th Ward Alderman. “If people don't feel secure in their homes, they're not going to stay no matter what the price is.”
