NEW DELHI -- Indian police say a 30-year-old American woman has been gang-raped in the northern Indian resort town of Manali.
Police officer Sher Singh says the woman was picked up early Tuesday morning by men in a truck as she was hitchhiking back to her guest house after visiting a friend.
He says the three men in the truck then drove to a secluded spot and raped her. She went to police and they filed a rape case.
Singh says no arrests had been made as of Tuesday afternoon and authorities had set up roadblocks to stop any truck leaving the town.
The reported rape came after a Swiss tourist was gang-raped in March while on a cycling trip through rural India.
Sexual assaults continue to make regular headlines in India, in spite of the high-profile cases involving Western women, and the fury in the Indian public caused by several brutal cases involving very young girls.
Indians have increasingly demanded stronger protections for women since the gang rape and killing of a student on a bus in the capital of New Delhi in December.
