BELLEVILLE, Ill. -- An East St. Louis man has been ordered to spend four decades in prison for his role in the 2011 shooting death of a security guard during what authorities say was an attempted robbery.
The Belleville News-Democrat reports that 20-year-old Stanley Chairs III was sentenced Thursday in St. Clair County, where he was convicted in April of first-degree murder.
Authorities say 22-year-old Joshua Miller was working as a security guard at a redevelopment complex in 2011 when he was shot in the head and died. His body was found in a vehicle.
Miller was a father of two, trying to save money to buy his family a house.
Chairs still awaits trial in connection with a 2011 armed robbery.
