HOUSTON—A major mix-up at the Miss Universe Canada pageant led to the wrong woman being crowned, USMagazine.com reported.
Denise Garrido thought her childhood dream had come true when she was crowned Miss Universe Canada, but 24 hours later organizers told her the results were wrong. There had been a math error and she was actually third runner up, not the winner.
Garrido graciously let go of her crown and title to Riza Santos, a Canadian television personality who scored the highest marks with judges.
Garrido is 26 and will be too old to compete next year, but said she has been asked to come back as a judge.
