(KMOV) – Charges have been filed against a man accused of hitting another person with a board and cutting their face with scissors in downtown St. Louis on Monday.

Gary Cain, 50, was charged with first-degree assault and armed criminal action.

According to police, Cain and a 50-year-old man were at the back of St. Patrick’s Center in the 800 block of N. Tucker around 1:20 p.m. when they got into an argument.

Police said Cain then picked up a board from a nearby construction site and beat the victim across the upper body and head.

Authorities said he then pulled out a pair of scissors from his pocket and cut the victim, causing lacerations on both sides of his face.

The victim was transported to the hospital in serious condition.

Officers responded to the scene and took Cain into custody.
