Survivor of Wash. bridge collapse shares experience

Three people were pulled from the water after the Interstate 5 bridge over the Skagit River collapsed Thursday, May 23.

One of the men pulled from the water will be discharged from Skagit Valley Hospital tonight. Dan Sligh is in the U.S. Navy stationed at Whidbey Island.

He shared his experience getting out of the car and waiting about 90 minutes on the top of his car before he and his wife were rescued. Sligh's wife is still in the hospital with some internal bleeding.

Sligh reported seeing the semi truck hit the bridge and slammed on his brakes, but couldn't stop in time.

"I thought we were done," he said about the water rushing into the car.

He said his car filled with water up to his stomach.

"It was just one of those, hold on for your life moments," he said.
