(KMOV) -- The house Stan Musial called home since 1967 is now on the market. The three acre, 5,286 square foot estate on Trent Drive in Ladue is listed at $1.795 million. It has four bedrooms, five full bathrooms and two half baths, and a concrete pool in the backyard.
The home was built in 1962, but Stan and his wife Lillian didn’t move in until 1967 when he was the Cardinals general manager.
I was in that house once when I did an interview with Stan in the early 1990’s. I don’t remember much about my line of questioning. As a lifelong Cardinals fan it was a surreal moment being in his house and talking with him there. I was a nervous wreck and totally in awe of him even though a nicer, kinder, or more unassuming man never walked the earth.
The one thing I do remember was the moment when we arrived at his house to do the interview. As we drove up to the driveway we saw somebody cutting the massive front yard with a riding lawn mower. He noticed when we pulled into the driveway and headed toward us on the mower. Sure enough, it was Stan. One of the greatest American athletes of the 20th century was out there cutting his own grass. That was classic Stan “the Man” Musial.
