Lincoln County Sheriff to crack down on uninsured drivers

(KMOV.com) – Lincoln County authorities are taking new steps to cut down on the number of uninsured drivers.

Authorities told News 4 they are encountering more motorists who are driving with a suspended license and no auto insurance. The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office said it will arrest a driver it catches who has revoked license or is uninsured . Authorities also said they will tow the person's car.

"We feel it's our responsibility to uphold that law and protect the insured motorists in the state of Missouri," Lieutenant Andy Binder said.

Under Missouri law it is illegal to drive without auto insurance and Lincoln County officials said they are tired of people driving without it.

"I'm not sure if it's a result of the economy or what but the fact of the matter is,” Binder said. “The people who do it the right way are being victimized when they're in a motor vehicle collision with uninsured drivers."

The Lincoln County Sherriff’s Office said if it pulls over a driver that is insured but can’t produce proof of insurance; it will not tow the motorist’s car.
