(KMOV) – Fans planning to take the Broadway exit off of Interstate 70 into downtown St. Louis for Sunday’s regular season opener against the Arizona Cardinals will have to find another route.

The Broadway exit, which runs next to the Edward Jones Dome, will be shut down two and a half hours before kick-off at every home game this year. Since Sunday’s game starts at 3:25 p.m., that means the ramp will shut down at roughly 1 p.m. Eastbound I-70 traffic can instead exit at Pine.

Broadway will also be closed between Cole Street and Convention Plaza.

The ramp won’t re-open until an hour after the game ends, according to Marty Brooks, Sr. Vice President and General Manager of America’s Center Complex.

“One of the criticisms the league had brought to our and the Rams attention was that with Broadway being open, [it] creates vehicular traffic very close in proximity to our front door,” said Brooks.

This is one of security changes fans will notice when the new football season begins.

The NFL is implementing new security rules at all stadiums, nationwide.  Fans are encouraged to leave all bags, purses, backpacks at home.  Only clear bags, no larger than 12” x 6” x 12” will be allowed in.  Even diaper bags have to be clear.  Small clutches or wallets the size of your palm are permitted, but will still have to undergo screening.

Binoculars and cameras are allowed, but the cases cannot be brought into the Edward Jones Dome.  The NFL will permit one-gallon size freezer bag into stadiums.

During the upcoming season, Rams fans will also notice a second security perimeter that will be set up 25 to 30 yards from the entry gates.  Approximately 16 security staff will be standing on platforms to identify anyone attempting to bring a bag near the dome.

Fans caught carrying restricted bags will be asked to either return the bags to their cars or check the bags into lockers - provided on site.
