(KMOV.com) -- Three times in four days, thieves have loaded shopping carts and tried to walk out of a Walmart in St. Louis County without paying a dime.
Detectives with the Fenton precinct of the St. Louis County Police Department say thieves get away with the crime more than they get caught.
Police say these bold thieves like Walmart because the stores are big and busy and the key to their success is to linger on an aisle near the door, then make a run for it when the greeter goes away or to hit stores that don’t use greeters anymore.
Officers say 60 to 70 percent of the shoplifting is related to drugs- addicts looking for stuff to resell for drug money. Sometimes they’re sent by drug dealers to get specific stuff that’ll be resold at local flea markets.
