Preseason over with, Rams excited to show the league what they can do

Posted: Updated:

(FootballStL) -- Ever since free agency and the draft, we’ve heard nothing from the Rams except how exciting this upcoming season is going to be.  From the new weapons on offense to a few new and improved pieces on defense, Year Two of the Jeff Fisher era is supposed to be even better than the first.

Yet during the preseason the Rams were very understandably vanilla because they don’t want to show other teams what they have.  So after all the talk, no one has truly seen what this new look squad will be like.  The first taste of it will come this Sunday in the Edward Jones Dome when the Cardinals come to town.

“I’ve spent a long time waiting and it’s been a long time coming,” tight end Jared Cook said.  “I think our preparation so far this week is going really well.  I think everybody’s excited.”

“I like the idea of opening at home.  The only thing better than playoff football in the National Football League is opening day.  And opening up at home is a great opportunity,” head coach Jeff Fisher said.

The Cardinals are a new look team themselves.  They boast a new head coach (Bruce Arians), a new quarterback (Carson Palmer) and a new running back (Rashard Mendenhall).  And they still posses arguably the game’s best wide receiver in Larry Fitzgerald.

So it’s going to be a major challenge starting the season 1-0.

“We don’t look past it,” Jeff Fisher said.  “We put a great deal of emphasis on it throughout camp because you have to get to a peak and you have to be ready for it and then you just play them one at a time.  Obviously it’s important for everyone in the league to get off to a fast start. And that’s what we’re hopeful for.”
