(KMOV) – Police say a suspect driving a stolen vehicle was arrested after leading officer on a chase that spanned more than 20 miles in St. Louis city and county early Thursday morning.

Authorities say a St. Louis police officer spotted a car near the intersection of 20th and John that was listed stolen from Evansville, Indiana around 10 p.m.

The vehicle went into north St. Louis County and continued on I-270 into west St. Louis County, where it exited at Gravois.

The suspect eventually noticed a St. Louis County police vehicle that responded to the scene and fled east to May Valley Dr. in Fenton.

Police say that’s when the suspect got out of the vehicle and fled on foot. He was eventually apprehended and was bitten by a K-9 while resisting arrest.

Authoriites say a St. Louis special operations unit handled the case and some detectives involved were not in uniforms. Authorities say one of those officers was also bitten by a St. Louis County K-9 during the struggle. He was taken to the hospital for treatment.

Authorities say the stolen vehicle has Kentucky plates and officers were looking for it because of a possible connection to car break-ins in St. Louis.

The investigation is ongoing.
