(KMOV.com) – An East St. Louis bar could be penalized after a 20-year-old man was shot and killed near the establishment late Saturday night.

Police said Kenneth Richards was shot and killed in the rear parking lot of Denese’s Place in the 200 block of Collinsville Avenue just before midnight Sunday.

East St. Louis officials said Denese’s faces possible violations of security ordinances and nuisance laws.

The business has had its liquor license temporarily suspended pending the outcome of a hearing at the East St. Louis mayor’s conference room at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday.

The hearing could lead to penalties, according to officials.

“Ultimately, the City of East St. Louis will do whatever it deems necessary to bring about an environment that is as healthy and as safe as it can be,” said East St. Louis Mayor Alvin Parks.

Officers continue to search for a white, four-door GMC Yukon or Suburban that was seen leaving the scene.

Anyone with information is asked to  call (618) 482-6767. Those who wish to remain anonymous can call Crimestoppers at (866) 371-TIPS (8477).
